Gartner's insight into the Market

Communications as a service (CaaS) is an alternative software-based delivery model for IP telephony and unified communications services, where business users secure a utility-based pricing model. And we believe it will have staying power, if the providers of this service emphasise an evolution to advanced multimedia functionality and help customers manage costs.

Managing any environment comprising of computers and their networks such as a data center is a daunting task. Providing the required physical resources, securing them, using all assets optimally, and managing the plethora of network connections is a complex proposition added with the rising cost of energy and other facilities like space, cooling etc. The answer to this dilemma came in the form of ‘virtualization,’ the creation of a virtual version of either the operating system, server, storage device or a network resource.

A recent Gartner analyst predicted IT outsourcing prices would fall between 5-20% in the next 2 years. Taiwan has developed one of the most advanced telecommunications networks in Asia. With excellent telecommunications infrastructure in place and the innovative use of breakthrough information technologies, the country continues to be well placed to drive both mobile and data communications services. Annual telecommunications service revenues are around NT$400 billion (US$12 billion) and investment in telecoms infrastructure remains substantial. This translates to an increase of 100% over the 10-year period from 1998 when revenue was near NT$200 billion (US$6 billion).
